Abstract
The increasing complexity of next-generation radar systems, driven by active electronically scanned array technology, advanced digital signal processing, and multifunctional operations, has made it difficult to evaluate system performance solely through physical testing. Consequently, modeling and simulation (M&S) has become an essential engineering tool throughout the system development lifecycle. However, previous studies have primarily focused on individual technical models, such as antenna characteristics, propagation environments, signal processing, and target tracking, while providing limited guidance on how M&S should be systematically applied in radar system development. The aim of this study was to analyze current research trends and identify the limitations of existing radar M&S approaches. To address the identified research gap, an application framework is proposed by associating development phases with decision objectives, M&S scope, model fidelity, validation evidence, and engineering outputs.
