Abstract
The use of self-extinguishing test results for airworthiness substantiation requires verification that the selected method, representativeness of the specimens, test conditions, and determination of the results are equivalent to the applicable requirements. This assessment requires a comprehensive review of the basis for selecting the test-methods , how representative the specimens are to the installed article, and detailed test conditions. This study integrated installation- and compartment-specific test requirements set out in relevant standards and guidance. Based on the findings, a minimum evidence checklist was developed covering test applicability, representativeness of test articles and specimens, test conditions, and results and determination. Application to domestic certification cases identified evidence frequently omitted from test reports and supported refinement of the checklist. Expert review further refined the checklist as a practical reference for test planning, evidence preparation, and equivalency assessment.
