Abstract
Oil-spill accidents in marine environments cause severe damage to marine ecosystems and coastal areas. Consequently, efficient oil-spill response technologies are necessitated. This study performs numerical simulations to optimize the design of a hydrocyclone separator for marine oil-spill response vessels. The effects of inlet mass flow rate, vortex-finder length, and vane installation on oil-separation efficiency are evaluated.
