Abstract
Unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) are strategic assets that enhance survivability and combat effectiveness by autonomously performing missions such as oceanographic surveys, surveillance and reconnaissance, and mine countermeasures in hazardous maritime environments. This paper analyzes the key technologies that must be developed to apply the MOSA(modular open systems approach) concept to USVs in order to address the uncertainties of future operational environments.
