Abstract
This study examines low-visibility events in the Masan Harbor area from 2019 to 2023, focusing on associated oceanographic and meteorological conditions. Results showed that low-visibility events predominantly occurred from winter to summer, with sea fog and non-sea fog conditions exhibiting distinctly different characteristics. Sea fog occurred more frequently under conditions of low surface air temperature (SAT) and sea surface temperature (SST), high relative humidity, and weak winds with negative sea-air temperature differences, whereas non-sea-fog events were associated with high SAT, high SST, and low-pressure conditions during summer. These findings demonstrate that low-visibility events are strongly influenced by not only seasonal background factors but also by changes in atmospheric–oceanic interactions and meteorological conditions.
