Abstract

Active electronically scanned array (AESA) radars provide rapid beam steering through electronic scanning; however, their antenna and monopulse characteristics vary with increasing scan angle. The aim of this study was to analyze the sum pattern, difference pattern, and monopulse ratio characteristics of a uniform planar-array-based AESA radar as a function of electronic scan angle. Monopulse ratio curves were generated for scan angles ranging from 0° to 60°, and the monopulse slope and linear region width were quantitatively evaluated. The results show that the half-power beamwidth and linear region width increased with scan angle, whereas the monopulse slope decreased. These findings indicate that increasing scan angle reduces monopulse angle estimation sensitivity despite the expansion of the linear operating region, providing a useful basis for future monopulse compensation techniques.
